On December 13, 2024, Planning Ahead’s Founder, Keshi Satterwhite, achieved an incredible milestone by becoming an authorized Project WET (Water Education Today) Facilitator. This accomplishment reflects our commitment to empowering communities through education and engagement centered on environmental sustainability and water stewardship.

What is Project WET?

Project WET is an international, award-winning nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing water education to solve complex water issues. By providing interactive, science-based resources, Project WET empowers educators, students, and communities to understand the vital role of water in our lives and ecosystems. Through fun, hands-on activities, participants explore topics like water conservation, pollution prevention, and the water cycle while learning how to responsibly protect and manage water resources.

What Does This Mean for Planning Ahead?

As a newly authorized Project WET Facilitator, Keshi Satterwhite will bring these impactful tools to Central East Durham and Raleigh communities. Planning Ahead will integrate Project WET activities into our ongoing programs, fostering environmental literacy and encouraging actionable change.

Here’s how we’ll implement Project WET into our community engagement work:

  • Workshops and Events: We’ll host community workshops and school events using Project WET’s curriculum to teach families and students about water conservation and sustainable practices.

  • Youth Programs: By incorporating Project WET activities into “Elevating from the Backyard to the Community” (EBC), we’ll empower young people to become environmental stewards in their neighborhoods.

  • Professional Training: We’ll train educators and community leaders to use Project WET resources in their own teaching and engagement efforts.

Together, these initiatives will deepen the impact of Planning Ahead’s mission to create equitable, sustainable solutions for environmental challenges.

Why Water Education Matters

Clean and accessible water is a cornerstone of healthy communities, economic growth, and environmental preservation. Yet, many communities face challenges such as water pollution, flooding, and inequitable access to resources. Through Project WET, Planning Ahead will provide the knowledge and tools needed to tackle these issues head-on—empowering people to lead change from within.
