This Saturday, the Partners for Environmental Justice Walnut Creek Watershed Learning Network (WCWLN) cohort rolled up their sleeves for an interactive day of watershed discovery led by Planning Ahead. Through hands-on activities and playful learning, participants connected deeply with the waterways that sustain our communities.
In “How’s My Watershed,” Planning Ahead guided participants in uncovering real-time water quality data using the EPA’s How’s My Waterway tool. They became Watershed Detectives—a game created by Planning Ahead—to explore environmental data in a fun, engaging, and community-centered way.

Next, our “From Soil to Supper” experience helped participants move like water—modeling how temperature and precipitation changes affect soil moisture. This activity built a tangible understanding of how climate impacts the health of our soils and, ultimately, our food systems.
These moments are more than games—they’re pathways to environmental literacy, stewardship, and action. Together, we’re equipping residents with the tools to better understand and care for their local ecosystems.
